Five months later in the reverse fixture, Watford were awarded a penalty when 2-0 down at the Emirates after Ainsley Maitland-Niles brought down Roberto Pereyra inside the box.

"I wanted to absolutely win this game, it was hard, but it gets us out of that negative spirit that we were in".

Watford's Troy Deeney had a penalty saved three minutes later before Henrikh Mkhitaryan sealed the win on 77 minutes. Deeney, who was extremely vocal with his criticism of Arsenal after the sides last met, was denied by Cech much to the delight of the Emirates crowd.

The win moves Arsenal to within 10 points of Tottenham, ahead of their match against Bournemouth later on Sunday.

Cech has been waiting to reach that milestone since his last clean sheet, which came in the 1-0 win against Newcastle all the way back on December 16th.

Jack Wilshere and Calum Chambers are on the substitutes bench following their midweek exertions while Aaron Ramsey and the aforementioned Koscielny are not in the squad altogether. But I wanted absolutely to win this game and it was hard, but overall, it gets us a little bit out of that negative spiral that we were in. Watford came back strongly in the second half but we did well with set-pieces and got the second goal after Petr Cech made a great save on the penalty.

It was a good day for Mesut Ozil and Petr Cech, the latter becoming the first goalkeeper to keep 200 clean sheets, after he saved a penalty in the match. They all say no, but we know all - it's not true.

We may have lacked a bit of freshness, but at least we showed some cojones again!

It was also his first spot-kick save in England's top flight since February 2011.

While Arsenal looked strong going forward, their six changes gave the defence a makeshift feel, although Richarlison could not capitalise as he fired wide after breaking in behind. When told after the game "Hector Bellerin is sure it wasn't a foul" Deeney had a classic quick response. "We took only 18 games to get nine clean sheets at the start of the season and since then we've had to wait 11 games which is sometimes frustrating".
