According to investigative reporters Michael Isikoff's and David Corn's new book, "Russian Roulette: The Inside Story of Putin's War on America and the Election of Donald Trump", the White House director of cybersecurity, Michael Daniel, was particularly concerned when he learned in June that Russian actors had infiltrated critical election infrastructure in several U.S. states. She served as Special Assistant to President Barack Obama and Senior Director for Russia/Eurasia on the National Security Council from 2013-2017.

Despite Mueller's 37-page indictment detailing charges against the Russians, Putin said he has seen no evidence that their actions broke any law.

Last week, Putin told Washington to send him hard evidence that his citizens meddled in USA elections, mocking accusations to date as "yelling and hollering in the United States Congress". Mr. Trump has said he never said Russian Federation did not meddle.

US intelligence chiefs last month said Russian attempts to meddle in USA politics are continuing unabated and pose a threat to mid-term congressional elections in November.
