Traditionally, the previous year's best actor victor would present that statuette, but Casey Affleck, who triumphed in 2017 for "Manchester by the Sea", withdrew under a cloud of sexual harassment accusations he denies. The prestigious award has been won by well-deserving Sam Rockwell for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. That includes the top directing awards at the Golden Globes, the Critics' Choice Awards and - perhaps most notably - the Director's Guild of Americas Awards.

The other best picture nominees are "The Post", "Darkest Hour", "Call Me By Your Name" and "Phantom Thread".

Overall, "The Shape of Water" has had an impressive haul this award season. The film leads in total nominations with 13, and the PGA's Best Picture award has often meant good things on Oscar night. Also, "Three Billboards" has faced some backlash.

From master story teller, Guillermo del Toro, comes THE SHAPE OF WATER - an other-worldly fairy tale, set against the backdrop of Cold War era America circa 1962.

Hollywood's best and brightest are gathering to celebrate the films of 2017. They should have given the 10th spot to "Blade Runner 2049".

Jordan Peele won for his script to his horror sensation "Get Out", becoming the first African-American to win for best original screenplay. The film also took the awards for Best Production Design and Best Score.

That film yielded the oldest Oscar victor ever: James Ivory, who at 89 picked up a screenplay award for adapting it from the 2007 novel of the same name.

Who will win: I'm extremely confident that "Call Me By Your Name" will win in this category. Additionally, it doesn't have huge competition at the moment. If there was an upset, I could see Sorkin taking it.

For the second year in a row, Jimmy Kimmel will serve as the Oscars host.
