Man who shot himself near White House has died, DC police say



"The reality is, even though there's a fence line that's closely monitored and guarded, you can get pretty close to the White House with a weapon", he says.

The U.S. Secret Service also said that there were no other injuries aside from the male victim. The man has since died; no one else was injured in the incident, the spokesperson said.

Authorities were withholding the man's name until relatives were notified.

"We're aware of the incident". None of the shots appeared to have been directed at the White House. Officers with rifles patrolled the area. "The president has been briefed", deputy press secretary Hogan Gidley told reporters. Many were checking smartphones for news reports on the incident.

Trump is set to return later on Saturday. On Feb. 23, a woman was arrested after crashing her vehicle into a security barrier near the presidential residence.
