Google Releases Gmail Go Light Version for Android 8.1 Smartphones With 1GB RAM

So, if you have a device with Android 8.1 Oreo installed and you want to try Gmail Go, head to the download link below.

Days after rolling out the slimmed down version of the original Gmail app, aka Gmail Go to the web users, Google on Thursday introduced the mobile version of the application as well.

The ultra-light app works just like the original Gmail app but without putting much pressure on the RAM. But overall, there doesn't seem to be too many noticeable differences between the two apps, in terms of feature set.

If we talk more about this Gmail Go app, it is not available for all the smartphones.

Overall, the Gmail Go interface looks nearly exactly like the main app - there's the multi-select option, and then there's also swipe gestures available.

The inbox incorporates a priority mail view, showing mails from friends, and stacks social and promotional emails. Gmail Go is meant to be used with devices running Android Go, the version of the OS for more affordable smartphones also targeted at those developing markets.

However, some early adopters have pointed out that scrolling on Gmail Go is a much more choppy experience than on the standard Gmail.

The company mentioned in a description, "The Gmail you love, now lighter and just as fast".

As per Google, Gmail Go blocks spam before it hits the inbox keeping the account safe. Lastly, Gmail Go has launcher app shortcuts as well which will let you straight away jump to any of your account inboxes or composing a message. Android Go OS is aimed at smartphones with 1GB of RAM or lower and it comes with a re-worked set of apps such as Google Go, YouTube Go, and Gmail Go. The size goes up to 24.80 when installed, as opposed to 47.28MB for the regular app, so still almost half. Interestingly, with Gmail Go you can read and respond both online & offline.

In fact, according to numerous reports, Gmail Go clocked in at a 9.51 MB download, and takes up roughly 25 MB of space on a device, compared with Gmail's 20.66 MB download, and 47 MB storage space.
