Apple releases Battery Health tool for iPhones

Instead of keeping engineers on a relentless annual schedule and cramming features into a single update, Apple will start focusing on the next two years of updates for its iPhone and iPad operating system, according to people familiar with the change.

The problem with this is that users experiencing their phones getting worse could have just replaced the battery and the phone would be back to running like new.

A former intern at Apple reportedly leaked a portion of source code for iOS, the proprietary iPhone operating system.

The hope, it's clear, is to avoid some of the more embarrassing launches that have punctured Apple's reputation for software solidity in recent years.

Apple will also bring Animoji to FaceTime so that iOS users can put virtual emojis over their faces similar to the filters used in Snapchat, Facebook and Instagram.

United States men stunned by Slovenia in Olympic hockey opener
The U.S. men's hockey team put itself in a hole in the opening game of the Olympics by losing 3-2 in overtime to Slovenia . Many spent stints in the NHL - five games here, 10 more there - before turning to a journeyman career in European leagues.

Apple is also expected to add a redesigned version of its in-house stock-tracking app. Internally codenamed "Peace", iOS 12 will focus on fine tuning and polishing the user experience and numerous features initially planned for this release will get postponed to iOS 13 slated to debut in 2019.

Apple's new iOS, premiering this spring, could streamline that entire process. Apple then has a smaller update roughly six months later, giving it the opportunity to tweak and improve features and perhaps thrown in a few new additions.

Apple also expects to integrate iOS 11's cartoony Animojis into FaceTime, enabling participants with TrueDepth cameras to appear as various animated animals during calls.

Apple has also recently released features later than it expected, as the rush to meet the annual deadline overtaxed engineers and created last-minute delays.

The biggest change coming to all iOS devices will be the ability to use third-party apps across all devices including Macs. The upgrade will form part of the upcoming macOS 10.14 and will possibly bring iPhone apps, such as the Home app for controlling smart home appliances, to the Mac. They no longer have to follow a strict schedule and can push back a feature if they feel it needs more work. By the way, there is a possibility of release of iOS 12 for the next year - about it a couple of times said, not the most senior Apple employees, but so far no prerequisites for this no. These include redesigned home screens for the iPhone, iPad, and CarPlay. For example, you could run the Messages app twice side-by-side to interact with two threads at once.
