Australia storm into T20 Tri-Series final

David Warner has scored only 10 runs in two matches in the ongoing tri-series

David Warner has scored only 10 runs in two matches in the ongoing tri-series

The win ensured Australia will play in the tri-series final in Auckland, New Zealand, on February 21 with preliminary matches now switching to New Zealand.

Stanklake finished with two wickets and Kane Richardson three as England failed to curtail its desire to hit out at all costs, a strategy which brought them undone with the under par total.

D'Arcy Short also impressed in compiling his 36 not out as Australia easily chased down England's 137-7.

Short and Maxwell took charge against England spinners Adil Rashid and Liam Dawson before Aaron Finch confirmed the victory with back-to-back sixes off Willey.

In the inaugural match, they beat Black Caps where in the 2nd match which was against England, Australia once again won by five wickets. But Warner's form is again in the spotlight after his relentless playing schedule. This time he lasted just four balls, nicking a David Willey outswinger on two.

Pacemen Kane Richardson and Billy Stanlake claimed five wickets between them as Australia restricted England to 137 for seven after being sent into bat in the third tri-series Twenty20 worldwide at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Saturday.

He is expected to travel with the T20 side to New Zealand before heading straight to South Africa for the first of four tests.

With Saturday's defeat, England have now lost five of their last six T20I encounters against the Australians.

James Vince's run-a-ball 21 and an eye-catching 29 from Sam Billings was about as good as it got for them, despite accounting for the risky David Warner (2) early in Australia's response.

"After a poor performance in Hobart, we were determined to show what we are capable of tonight, but we weren't able to do that".

Warner left England reeling at 3-34 in the fourth over when he ran out Dawid Malan with a brilliant direct hit.

Aside from some woeful running with Vince - only wayward throwing stopped denied Australia a second run out - Buttler perhaps erred too much towards preservation.

Buttler was deputizing for injured skipper Eoin Morgan, who missed the match after straining his right groin during training on Friday.

Complementing Richardson's three wickets for Australia were Billy Stanlake (2-28) and Andrew Tye (1-29).
