Kim Jong Un holds military parade before start of Olympics

Day three in South Korea North to the DMZ

Day three in South Korea North to the DMZ

Kim Yo Jong, the younger sister of North Korea's leader and a senior member of the Workers' Party, will be part of the delegation due to arrive on Friday.

Relations between North and South Korea have been becoming more positive in recent months, with the two countries marching under the same flag in tonight's ceremony.

Seoul had to waive sanctions in place since 2010 on North Korea over the sinking of a South Korean naval vessel to allow the ship to enter this time.

Kim Yo Jong has been an increasingly prominent figure in North Korea's leadership and is considered one of the few people who has earned Kim Jong Un's absolute trust.

Pence's personal guest at the games will be Fred Warmbier, the father of Otto Warmbier, an American who died past year days after his release from captivity in North Korea.

"We're headed to the Olympics, and there may be a possibility for any kind of an encounter with North Koreans, whether it be informal or whether it take the form of a meeting", Pence told reporters in Japan before setting off for South Korea.

The regime had been planning the parade for weeks to mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of its military but instead of broadcasting it live, North Korea later aired an edited version on state-run television.

Black Ops 4 is reportedly Call of Duty's 2018 game
But the ultra-futuristic Infinite Warfare saw relatively low sales, so Black Ops 4 may pull back from similar sci-fi trappings. So it's not really a matter of if the company will announce a new Call of Duty for 2018-it's a matter of when.

But the delegation features Kim Yo Jong, the sister of Kim.

The Koreas' separation makes citizens of the North an object of some fascination for Southerners. It wasn't clear if Kim Jong Un spoke during the event, as he has on previous prominent national events.

"I think it will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity unless we are reunified", she added. It's a convenient way for North Korean officials to keep closer control over the delegation and limit its exposure to South Korean "ideological contamination".

One of the problematic songs was "Moranbong", whose lyrics praise Pyongyang as "the capital of revolution".

The ship will be used as lodging for the group, at least initially, before they move on to a performance in Seoul on Sunday.

North Korea will have 22 athletes competing at the Pyeongchang Games, but the total number of North Koreans crossing the border is more than 500.

The Washington Post reported that Pence has invited Fred Warmbier (the father of Otto Warmbier, the American student who was sentenced to 15 years of hard labor while visiting North Korea and died after his return to the United States as a result of being mistreated while in custody) to attend the opening ceremonies of the Olympic Games with him Friday evening.
