Heading into Friday morning the arctic air will reach the East Coast with wind chills in the single-digits from Washington, D.C.to New York City. Sunday is mostly cloudy with seasonable highs in the mid-40s.

Another system takes aim on Southern New England next Wednesday.

Forecasters said snow is likely in the Omaha area before noon Sunday, when a high in the mid-teens is expected. Monday will feature those scattered snow showers early before temperatures drop into the 30s for highs. 30-40% chance of showers. By the later afternoon hours, into the evening commute... temperatures will be in the teens. It will feel cold, but not below zero.

A coastal storm may develop along this boundary and lift northeast Sunday night into Monday. Another fast moving wave of low pressure will move through Sunday, bringing another chance of light snow. This one might start as rain and finish up with accumulating snow - as yet another blast of cold air heads our way. Highs on Sunday in the mid 20s.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a cold front is forecast to move across the Long Island area tonight and into early Friday morning.

Today: Partly sunny, with a high near 34. We expect highs to range from 35 to 40. The January 17, 2008, event is notable because it was widely forecast as a 1-2-inch snow quickly turning to rain in our region but turned into 3-5 inches, with snow only briefly turning to sleet and rain before the precipitation shield moved out.

For now, the GFS model forecast anticipates that snow will continue to fall along a swath extending from the eastern Great lakes into western Pennsylvania, much of interior NY and New England. This was part of a lengthy deep freeze that began on Christmas Day and it lasted 2 weeks! The record warmth came with a heavy rainstorm. For now, the Weather Service expects Sunday morning lows will be around 34 degrees.
