"So, by getting people talking about mental health we can break down stereotypes, improve relationships, aid recovery and take the stigma out of something that affects us all".

But one individual is using his talents to help others with mental illness.

The Canadian Mental Health Association notes that in any given year, one in five people in Canada will deal with a mental health problem or illness; roughly eight per cent of adults will suffer from major depression at some time in their lives; and about one per cent of Canadians (that's almost 363,000 people) will experience bipolar disorder (or "manic depression").

That's the first step to wholeness and well-being.

In my maiden speech in the European parliament, I spoke of the need to "redouble our efforts to secure parity of esteem between mental health and physical health, and to eradicate mental health stigma and discrimination".

Since the launch in 2014 of the campaign, Time to Talk Day has sparked millions of conversations in schools, homes, workplaces, in the media and online and attracted support from celebrities such as Freddie Flintoff, Stephen Fry and Frankie Bridge.

Time to Talk day also falls on Breathing Space day this year, and the launch of their campaign, 365 Brighter Days, created to offer a year round approach to positivity.
