Quiksilver CEO Pierre Agnès is lost at sea

Quiksilver chief executive Pierre Agnes is missing at sea after French coastguards found his empty boat washed ashore in south-western France.

Agnes is the CEO of Boardriders, the company that owns Quiksilver and Roxy.

Officials said Pierre Agnes, 54, left on a solo boat ride early Tuesday morning from the surfing resort of Hossegor to go fishing.

Authorities have not said if Agnes was alone on the boat, but rough seas were reported near the French Coast Guard's search location. The coast of Capbreton is known for it's intense and often unsafe waves that are prized by surfers.

The sea search continued after dark but the land search was suspended until Wednesday morning.

Agnes was set to become president of the combined company lead an integration of the two entities.

An advocate of budgetary discipline, Niinisto helped pull Finland out of a deep recession in the 1990s and into the eurozone. Finland's president designs the blueprint for the country's foreign and security policy together with the government.

"I'm praying for a miracle but it's just starting to hit me what a profound effect this man had on my life and the surf community at large", he wrote.

"I am excited and honored to pass the leadership baton to Dave and to continue to partner with him to drive the next phase in the evolution of Boardriders", said Agnes in a press release earlier this month.

The Quiksilver CEO frequently takes his boat out in the mornings.

They added: "Our thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family all at this time, as well as the search and rescue teams".

Agnes served as the head of Quiksilver's France-based European headquarters before taking charge of the entire company in 2015.
