Apple's Homepod will support lossless FLAC files

Apple Home Pod with music

Apple Home Pod with music

This is a blatant move to counter Apple's move into the smart speaker sector; one HomePod is priced at $349 (£319 in the UK). Considering that just one Sonos One speaker costs $199/£199 on its own, 25% off (or around $50/£50) is nothing to joke about. In addition to support for music, podcasts and everything else that customers love about Sonos, Sonos One allows owners to enjoy other great things people love about Alexa - the latest weather updates, ability to set timers, access to flash briefings, news and traffic reports, as well as the latest sports scores.

Today, Sonos announced that it's offering a pretty hefty discount on its new Sonos Two package - basically two Sonos One smart speakers for $349 in the United States and £349 in the UK, which, strangely enough is the same price as Apple's HomePod. For those of you keeping track, that's the same price as Apple's HomePod, which goes on sale the exact same day (but will ship in two weeks). This could possibly mean that Sonos will support Airplay 2 multi-room support before the HomePod, as Apple announced this week that the speaker will not have that basic feature at launch.

As for Siri on the Sonos One, you'll be able to use any Siri-enabled device to issue commands to the One speakers. Sonos added Spotify voice control to the One in November.

It supports some advanced search queries such as "Hey Siri, when was this song released?" or "Hey Siri, can you play something else?", and so much more.

Tesla allegedly on autopilot smashes into bright red firetruck in California
In 2016, for instance, a Tesla driver operating in autopilot mode was killed when his Model S drove underneath a tractor-trailer. Furthermore, National Transportation Safety Board in the U.S. is gathering information about the accident involving a Tesla Inc.

On the smart home side, Apple's HomePod can be used to control everything from thermostats to lights through Apple's HomeKit service.

Sonos isn't getting upset about the impending launch of the Apple HomePod.

With the debut of the Apple HomePod nearly upon us, Sonos has decided to make a move of its own. There's definitely a U.S. centric approach to the Smart Home Apple partners and for those in the United Kingdom who have already invested in British Gas Hive then Amazon Alexa is definitely your best option as Apple have no support announced.

Apple do have a handful of Smart Home device integrations, but again many on their list of compatible products are simply "announced" and not yet available. "We think they will be blown away by the audio quality". Interestingly, it had, "Siri recognises SiriKit requests made on HomePod and sends those requests to the user's iOS device for processing".
