Netanyahu told Pence on Monday in a speech to parliament that President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the country's capital will go down as one of the most historic in Israel's history.

Pence's visit to Israel, the last leg of a regional tour, was boycotted by Palestinian leaders following US President's decision last month to declare Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

The plan to accelerate the move of the embassy, announced in the first address of a sitting American vice president to the Knesset, marked the highlight of Pence's three-day visit to Israel celebrating President Donald Trump's decision last month to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital - a decision that has set off weeks of unrest and thrown US peace efforts into disarray.

U.S. Vice President Mike Pence said the U.S. should retain its dominant role as mediator of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, rebuffing Palestinian appeals to the European Union to take the reins.

But Mogherini said she still wanted to work with the United States on Middle East peace talks and had discussed ways to restart them late a year ago with Pence and US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.

Pence then paid a visit to Israel's "Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial" and Israel's Western Wall.

"If our allies will not join us, President Trump has made it clear we will withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal immediately", Pence said.

The official said Palestinians are independently reaching out to the administration in defiance of their leaders. Palestinian representative at the body Dima Asfour called on Israel to "end the illegal blockade of Gaza, investigate all allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed during its military aggressions in Gaza and provide full reparation".

International Monetary Fund cuts South Africa's growth forecast for next two years
Current upswing in the global economy "furnishes an ideal moment to act on a range of multilateral challenges", Obstfeld said. This growth is expected to continue into 2018 and 2019, as global growth is revised up to 3.9 percent for these two years.

It's just as well that Pence's original plan to visit Christian Holy Land sites just before Christmas was shelved, ostensibly because he had to be in Washington to make sure the GOP tax bill was planned.

His visit to the Western Wall in Jerusalem's Old City comes amid tensions with the Palestinians, who have assailed the Trump administration's decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

The Palestinians claim Israeli-annexed east Jerusalem as their capital and accuse the US of siding with Israel on the most sensitive issue in their conflict.

Randolph-Macon College history professor Michael Fischbach said it is not surprising to see a difference in USA and European positions.

Arab lawmakers in Israel's parliament have been tossed out from the house for heckling Vice President Mike Pence at the start of his speech. He said the American government would begin its plan to relocate the embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem in the coming weeks, Reuters relayed. Although President Trump insists he wants an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal, he has, unlike his predecessors, chosen to disqualify America as an honest broker.

Who is more upset about Trump's Jerusalem Declaration - the Arab population or the Europeans?

He said in a press released the U.S. government is proud to have worked closely with the Palestinian Authority, Israel, the operators, and the Office of the Quartet to encourage this tangible improvement in Palestinian lives. This is his fourth trip to Israel.

So, Pence's trip has turned into a combination of damage-control meetings with the leaders of Egypt and Jordan, and an extended pep rally with the Netanyahu government of Israel.
