FBI says marine flares not pipe bombs ignited at Florida mall

Witnesses told investigators that they saw a stocky, middle-age white man wearing a grey shirt and hat running from the scene.

Officials say a third "suspicious item" was found near a movie theater at the mall but it presented no danger.

Authorities are now searching for a "person of interest".

A backpack also found at the scene was examined by bomb technicians who determined it did not contain any incendiary or explosive devices, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The devices resembled pipe bombs with flares wrapped in electrical taping and.

The FBI said there was "no current indication of any terrorist connection to this incident".

Smoke billowed out from a corridor near one of the stores at Eagle Ridge Mall, in central Florida, following the blasts.

Shoppers were evacuated from a Florida mall Sunday evening when two pipe bombs blew up, causing a fire to break out. Officials also said that the incident didn't appear to be terrorism-related. CNN reached out to Lake Wales police for comment on the Federal Bureau of Investigation release.

The mall is slated to reopen at 10 a.m. Monday.

The FBI later determined that there was no explosion and no pipe bombs were discovered. While en route to that call, their alarm for smoke was turned into a structure fire call.

There have been no injuries reported.The mall suffered some structural damage in a corridor and a drop ceiling near JC Penney, from the explosions.

Lake Wales PD has notified the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The police force and many emergency services from the countries at neighborhood including Office Bomb Squad of Hillsborough Sheriff rushed to the incident.
