OnePlus says up to 40000 customers were affected by credit card security breach

As for anyone who made a purchase with their credit card from the site prior to today, the only recourse is to keep an eye on your credit card statements and contact your bank if you see anything suspicious.

Talking about the affected users, those who entered their credit card info on oneplus.net between mid-November 2017 and January 11, 2018, may be affected.

Sensitive banking information including credit card numbers, expiry dates, and security codes may have been compromised.

When the breach was first reported, OnePlus shutdown its credit card servers and started to investigate.

OnePlus apologized for the payments breach and says it's "eternally grateful" to the community for identifying a pattern of fraudulent payments. The company says that the problem has been taken care of and that is has quarantined the server affected by the malicious program.

In a new post to the OnePlus forums, the company tells us what it found during its investigation.

Joshua Wong, Hong Kong activist in Umbrella Motion protests, imprisoned three months
Joshua Wong had been on bail, awaiting appeal against a six-month jail term imposed last August for a separate charge. Fourteen other defendants including activist Lester Shum were given suspended sentences on contempt charges.

Do you still have faith in OnePlus after the credit card hack? It is sending an email out to all customers that are affected by the data breach. As it turns out, there was an attack on the OnePlus website involving a malicious script injected into the payments page code.

OnePlus estimated the number of affected customers at 40,000, and said that all people they believe to be expected would receive a notification email.

A complete security check revealed that one of OnePlus' systems had been attacked by a malicious script that captured data from a user's browser window.

OnePlus has still left PayPal as a valid payment method on its website, but credit card payments remain suspended.

OnePlus is already in the process of getting in touch with all the potentially affected customers, and is working with the local authorities to address the incident better. The Verge reports that the company is now working to launch a more secure credit card payment processing system before it re-enables standard payments, with hopes that this OnePlus credit card breach never happens again. "All these measures will help us prevent such incidents from happening in the future", the company added.

Use prepaid cards or a PayPal account for online shopping, allowing for an extra layer between the attacker and your real accounts. Payment cards already saved on the site and transactions via PayPal are thought to be unaffected.
