The Palestinian health ministry confirmed a Palestinian was killed in the operation, naming him as Ahmed Ismail Jarrar, 31.

Jarrar was the son of Nasser Jarrar, a militant of Islamist movement Hamas who was killed while fighting Israeli forces in the second Palestinian intifada, his family said.

Witnesses said two houses belonging to the suspects' extended family were also demolished during the operation.

Reports say Israeli forces had stationed themselves at the entrance of Nabi Saleh an hour before the protest, preventing many foreign activists and journalists from entering the village after which they dispersed protesters with teargas. "Palestinian rioters hurled IEDs (improvised explosive devices), blocks and rocks and fired at the forces".

Rioting broke out at several locations in Jenin, to which the forces responded with riot dispersal means.

Following the arrests, Israeli Minister of Education Naftali Bennet, who leads the right-wing religious party Jewish Home, said: "The women seen assaulting Israeli soldiers in the video should finish their lives in jail".

22-year-old Ahmad Jarrar, the commander of the terror unit that carried out the murder of Rabbi Raziel Shevach in Havat Gilad last week, was killed during Thursday night's raid in Jenin.

Israeli forces have been hunting for the assailants since then, with roadblocks and checkpoints set up around Nablus following the murder.

The Israeli army frequently carries out sweeping arrest campaigns in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem with a view to finding and detaining "wanted" Palestinians.

There are frequent tensions between settlers in the Nablus area and Palestinians.

"The deprivation of liberty of children shall only be used as a measure of last resort and for the shortest appropriate period of time, and the best interests of the child are to be a primary concern", it said.
