Apple Looking Into Making Smaller iPhone 'Notch' Area: Report

Apple's CEO Tim Cook in a recent interview confirmed that the company will roll out an iOS update for all devices, providing users the option to disable power management to stop their phones from intentionally slowing down. It will arrive first through a developer release next month, presumably iOS 11.3. After the update, users will have a better idea that their iPhone is being slowed down to avoid unwanted shutdowns. He said, "And so we deeply apologise for anybody that thinks we had some other kind of motivation".

Speaking to ABC News, he said: "We've listened to the feedback very carefully".

Tim Cook is adamant that Apple doesn't recommend you actually use this "feature", but if you understand the risks, and value speed more than system stability and battery health, you will apparently be free to shut performance throttling off.

Apple was alleged for reducing iPhones performance as the battery gets older and failed to disclose power management changes, made with an update in iOS 10.2.1. Apple has since apologized and announced it would be dropping the price of replacement iPhone batteries from $79 to $29 throughout 2018.

Cook spoke with Rebecca Jarvis from ABC News in Reno, Nevada, where the CEO helped break ground on Apple's latest data centre expansion.

Woman Dead After Casino Boat Catches Fire Off Florida
A casino boat with 50 people aboard caught fire Sunday off the coast of Port Richey, officials said. Frigid air and cold water added panic to the rescue, but everyone was able to make it to shore.

We will tell somebody we're slightly reducing, or we're reducing your performance by some amount in order to not have an unexpected restart.

Again Cook expressed "Our actions were all in service of the user-we can't stress that enough".

The replacement policy also has been quite lax which ensured all qualifying handsets irrespective of whether or not their batteries needed to be replaced eventually were provided a new one. The consumer group called the Shanghai Consumer Council gave Apple a deadline, specifically before Friday of this week, to provide a reply, state news agency Xinhua noted. Replacing the older batteries with new ones will bring back the older iPhones' peak performance.

A public release of the next iOS 11 update is not expected to happen before March-and that's because the developer beta version is expected before that time-early February to be precise.
