Major League Baseball trade rumors: Giants acquire Andrew McCutchen from Pirates

This isn't remotely the same as when Pittsburgh let Barry Bonds walk following the 1992 season, which is the last time the Pirates lost a hitter as historically good as McCutchen.

For the Giants, the addition of McCutchen comes a few weeks after the team traded for third baseman Evan Longoria.

Andrew McCutchen is the newest member of the San Francisco Giants.

There is simplicity in a mid-January trade like Monday's, in which the San Francisco Giants acquired outfielder Andrew McCutchen from the Pittsburgh Pirates. He is a five-time All-Star and an MVP award victor in 2013, hitting.279 with 28 home runs and 88 RBI last season.

McCutchen, a five-time All-Star outfielder who won the NL MVP in 2013, is set to make $14.5 million this season in the final year of his contract.

Jacob Eason Transfer Rumors: UGA QB Reportedly Heading Home To Washington
The 20-year-old Lake Stevens, Washington , native went through an up-and-down freshman campaign with the Bulldogs in 2016. The indication is that Eason will transfer to Washington , which is what the Seattle Times reported earlier in the week.

Ken Rosenthal, MLB contributor to The Athletic, minutes later confirmed the two sides reached an agreement centered around the 31-year-old McCutchen. McCutchen's contributions in 2018 likely weren't going to make much of a difference for Pittsburgh in terms of returning to the postseason.

Then 2016 he had an odd down year as he slashed.256/.336/.488 with 24 home runs in 153 games. A far cry from his MVP season (2013), sure, but solid nonetheless. On this same day he became the face of the franchise for the Pirates and never looked back.

The Giants have filled a big void with a big name.

Last season, San Francisco tumbled down the standings as they struggled at the plate. The grand slam home run was the first of McCutchen's career.

Although they have agreed to a trade for McCutchen, the Giants might not be done in their pursuit of outfield depth.
