British Foreign, Brexit Ministers keep jobs in reshuffle

Leading figures such as Foreign Minister Boris Johnson, Finance Minister Philip Hammond and Brexit Secretary David Davis are expected to stay in their roles.

An interim deal on Brexit last month, however, gave May new impetus, and a long-anticipated reshuffle was arranged.

She said: "After the damage that Jeremy Hunt has done to the NHS in England it would be foolish for the Prime Minister to promote him to become her deputy".

Camera IconTheresa May was left red-faced after the wrong person was announced as her Cabinet's Party Chairman on Twitter, before it was quickly deleted.

Farage asked for the meeting after Barnier met with anti-Brexit British politicians a year ago, including Andrew Adonis, from the opposition Labour party, who had advised May on Brexit until he resigned from his post in December in protest at her appeasement of hard eurosceptics.

A national newspaper reported that May will name a "cabinet minister for no deal" to be based alongside Davis in the department for exiting the EU.

At the same time, it is expected that the Prime Minister will resign at least six members of the government.

The PM will make a handful of changes to her top team before chopping through the lower tiers.

But the actual new chairman has been confirmed as Brandon Lewis, the MP for Great Yarmouth, who has moved from a ministerial position in the Home Office.

Junior minister Chris Skidmore was appointed vice chairman for policy, Maria Caulfield as vice chair for women, and 2017 intake MPs Kemi Badenoch and Ben Bradley as vice chairs for candidates and youth respectively.

Steve Baker, who is now based in the Brexit department, is set to be confirmed as the Cabinet for minister for no deal, The Telegraph reports.

Monday's moves retained the delicate balance among Mrs.

After starting the two-year Brexit process in March last year, Britain struck a deal in December on the financial settlement with Brussels, as well as expatriate rights and the Irish border.

Environment Secretary Michael Gove, International Development Secretary Penny Mordaunt and International Trade Secretary Liam Fox all remain in the same jobs.

The reshuffle was prompted in part by the ousting of Damian Green, May's deputy and the de facto deputy prime minister.

Lidington was also named Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, replacing Sir Patrick McLoughlin, who was sacked as Conservative chairman following criticism of his role in the party's poor performance in last year's snap election.

The creation of the new post is seen as an attempt by the prime minister to show her EU counterparts and supporters of Brexit that London has serious intentions to leave the union without a deal if the negotiations fail.

The first official change of Monday was the announcement that close Theresa May ally James Brokenshire was taking the opportunity of the cabinet reshuffle to stand down from his position of Northern Ireland secretary, citing ill health.
