Trump declares he's deporting 200000 Salvadoran immigrants from US

Last year the administration ended those protections for citizens of Haiti and Nicaragua

The Trump administration announced Monday that it is ending protected status for El Salvador with an 18-month delay - the latest in a string of legal immigration programs that have been discontinued over the past year.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, countries that receive Temporary Protection Status (TPS) are defined as having "ongoing armed conflict (such as civil war), an environmental disaster (such as quake or hurricane), or an epidemic, [and] other extraordinary and temporary conditions".

This fall, her department ended temporary protected designations for thousands of immigrants, including more than 50,000 from Haiti and thousands more from Nicaragua and Sudan, which critics say needlessly uproots contributing immigrants to send them back to unstable countries.

The widely expected move culminates a series of similar decisions from the Trump administration to substantially curtail the use of Temporary Protected Status - a protection from deportation and authorization to live and work legally for nationals of countries that have suffered a disaster such as war, an epidemic or natural disasters. Of those Salvadorans, analysts say some 200,000 could face ouster without renewed TPS. "Based on careful consideration of available information, including recommendations received as part of an inter-agency consultation process, the Secretary determined that the original conditions caused by the 2001 earthquakes no longer exist".

Immigrant-rights advocates had heatedly fought to keep the Salvadorans here, arguing many of them have put down roots, including having some 200,000 children who, by dint of being born on USA soil, are already citizens.

Following Trump tweet, U.S. to withhold $255 million in aid from Pakistan
China is investing billions of dollars to help build a network of power plants, rail, road, and communications in Pakistan. Shah, the opposition leader, indicated that "Pakistan had paid a heavy price for allying itself with the USA since 1979".

Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen has decided that El Salvador has finally recovered enough from a 2001 quake that it can handle the return of its citizens, who had been allowed to remain in the U.S.by the Bush and Obama administrations under special Temporary Protected Status. If forced to return to El Salvador, mothers, fathers, and children could face extortion, kidnapping, coerced service to gangs, and sexual violence. Salvadorans make up the largest share of immigrants protected by the program, and all of them have lived in the United States since at least 2001.

"The end of TPS for El Salvador is a devastating betrayal for thousands of families who arrived at the United States seeking safety as well as their US citizen children". Florida Republican and immigration reform advocate Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart quickly released a statement in "strong disagreement" with the administration.

She explained that El Salvador has received significant worldwide aid and that much of the country's infrastructure is rebuilt.

The issue will now be kicked to Congress. Senate negotiators are discussing potentially including a deal to end the diversity lottery, which is a top target of President Donald Trump, in exchange for some resolution on TPS, according to Republican Arizona Sen.
