Toyota e Palette concept previews new autonomous vehicle platform

Toyota hopes to start testing the vehicle in the early 2020s. It comes in three sizes ranging from 4 meters (about 13 feet) to approximately 7 meters (around 23 feet) and is purposely created to be flexible and reconfigurable to accommodate a wide range of equipment and an even broader range of uses.

At a separate presentation at CES - formerly known as the Consumer Electronics Show - NVIDIA CEO Benson Huang said that by removing the driver from the vehicle ride-sharing services will be able to provide mobility at a cost less than that of owning and operating a personal vehicle.

The e-Palette concept vehicle is created to run using technology from Toyota or those from other companies as well. However, Toyota envisions a future where e-Palettes serve a wide variety of functions. At one time, the vehicle could deliver parcels, but it could just as easily begin picking up riders for Uber. Initial testing is scheduled to begin in the United States in early 2020 with further plans to start service during the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo.

A large screen behind Toyoda played a video rendering of a customer walking into an e-Palette mobile shoe store.

Even conventional retailers could use a driverless vehicle. Hail the roaming pizza oven, complete with (prisoner?) chef. Other mobility technologies may be available as well.

4 powerlifters killed in accident
The impact of the accident was so brutal that the roof of the auto was completely blown off. Four players died while Yadav and another weightlifter were seriously injured.

"Just think how good e-Palette would be at Burning man", quipped Akio Toyoda, Toyota Motor Company's bespectacled president, from the stage at CES in Las Vegas today. Toyota's so-called "guardian" technology will then act as a safety net, the company said.

First it was Ford and Domino's pairing to further the interests of each in autonomous delivery vehicles, now comes Pizza Hut and Toyota, who this afternoon said they're working on an initiative that may soon change not only how pizza is delivered, but possibly also how it's made, a news release said.

In principle, accomplices would have the capacity to purchase the self-governing e-Palette vehicle with the total escort innovation, or they could select to utilize their own particular computerized driving framework.

Toyota has laid out plans for a vehicle ecosystem that could challenge the way we use roads. If that's the case, it's hard to see how Toyota's mobility concept will have much application outside self-contained environments like college campuses or retirement communities.

Toyota's CEO said he doesn't downplay the potential threat posed by such newcomers.
