"But Mexico will pay". But members of Congress have not yet agreed to spending any money on the wall, and Mexico has repeatedly said it won't foot the bill.

The proposal by Customs and Border Protection calls for 505 kilometres of additional barrier by September 2027.

Construction of the U.S. -Mexico border wall was a key campaign promise of Trump's.

This would bring total coverage to 1,552 kilometres, or almost half the border.

"What the American people do want, in overwhelming numbers, is to provide legal protection to 800,000 Dreamers and a path toward citizenship for them", he continued, referring to a common name for young immigrants who came to the US illegally as children.

Helena Bonham Carter Joining 'The Crown' as Princess Margaret
If you've watched Seasons 1 and 2 of Netflix's fantastic series " The Crown ", you know we are saying goodbye to most of the cast. Now, if only they would tell us who's playing Prince Philip . " The Crown " is looking to add another member to its royal family.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., hit back at President Donald Trump over his demands for an immigration deal, saying recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), known as Dreamers, were not "bargaining chips", The Hill reported Friday.

The Democrats want to make DACA the focus of January's negotiations around funding the government, and Trump sees this as the flawless moment to throw in his border wall gambit.

Trump is also asking for changes to the legal immigration system. The White House and lawmakers in both parties agree that Dreamers should be protected but remain divided over the details of a plan. Congress must pass a federal budget by 19 January to avert a partial government shutdown, and the vote will require Democratic support.

'This is not going to get us the whole wall we need, but it's a start, ' she said. "With this demand, he seems to be heading in that direction".

Trump will host a bipartisan meeting early next week to discuss the issue.
