47-year-old Mariah Carey took to the stage yet again during the live broadcast of Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest. It appears that pre-show soundcheck worked. If that was a signal of the year to come, then there's hope for 2018 yet. The woman who made Glitter does not back down in the face of paramount humiliation, after all. Fans saw her performance as a redemption from last year's show, tarnished by technical difficulties when equipment malfunctioned during Carey's performance of her 1991 hit "Emotions".

"Happy New Year!" she told the crowds before adding: "They told me there would be tea". "Oh, it's a disaster". Okay, well we'll just have to rough it. "I'll just be like everybody else with no hot tea", Carey complained.

The five-time Grammy victor revealed on New Year's Day that she was finally able to sip on her desired beverage after a beyond chilly night. Seacrest asked Carey how she felt. The action starts at 8:00 p.m. EST and goes on past New Year's Eve with an end time of 2:13 a.m. Mariah Carey will be returning to perform this year in Times Square along with Nick Jonas, Camila Cabello, and Sugarland.

Even without the tea, Carey's performance gathered strength throughout the set without any obvious glitches - a marked improvement from a year ago.

Apple moral: Trademark founder's name to avoid being branded dumb
However, unlike Apple which uses the fruit by the same name to depict its company, Steve Jobs does the same with the letter "J". However, for now, at least, the brothers are free to use both the name and the logo.

The awkwardness increased exponentially from there, as Carey stood onstage without singing, throwing slight asides to the audience like, "We didn't have a sound check but it's New Year's, baby, that's OK, you guys", and "I'm trying to be a good sport here".

On the Dick Clark Productions side, they knew that she would draw the kind of ratings they wanted to see.

She was reportedly paid $3.5 million for her performance, which lasted around ten minutes.
