During the 2012-13 National Football League season, Pagano missed 12 games due to his battle with leukemia but rallied the Colts to the playoffs. Pagano has led the Colts to a 3-12 record in 2017 and will coach the team in their season finale against the Houston Texans on Sunday.

Head coach Chuck Pagano was sacked on Sunday as the Indianapolis Colts wrapped up the 2017 season with few bright spots.

Colts owner Jim Irsay gave Pagano the game ball following Sunday's home win and Pagano was seen making his rounds through the locker room hugging each player with tears in his eyes. "Throughout his tenure in Indianapolis, he impacted the lives of the players he coached, those who he worked with in the organization and Colts fans across the globe". As a result, his CHUCKSTRONG Foundation has raised millions for cancer research.

"We are thankful for Chuck's contributions to our franchise and community".

Much of that is due quarterback Andrew Luck's injury to his throwing shoulder he suffered during the 2015 season.

The move drew global condemnation and prompted a series of protests in Gaza and elsewhere. At least 500 people have been arrested, including Fatah leaders in Jerusalem.

Irsay, who has dabbled with splashy hires like Sean Payton or Jim Harbaugh in recent years, may be of the mindset that he needs a bigger name to help push this franchise back in the right direction (and help sell some tickets at a time when Luck's murky future clouds everything else in the franchise).

Pagano's career with the Colts began in 2012, his first of three consecutive 11-5 playoff campaigns.

Pagano led the Colts to four wins but Indianapolis finished with their worst record since 2011, when Peyton Manning was sidelined to undergo fusion surgery on his neck.

Rapoport cited the attractiveness of coaching Andrew Luck, and general manager Chris Ballard's history in Kansas City as reasons for why these candidates make sense for the Colts.
