'Padmavati' row: CBFC decides to proceed with certification after title change

Padmavati Should Lose A Letter To Get U A

Mumbai: The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has chose to give Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Padmavati" a UA certificate and has suggested the director to change the film's title to "Padmavat".

He added that the producers and director had been asked to run a disclaimer saying the movie does not "claim historical accuracy", and that they were "completely in agreement" with the suggestions. However, this would be done only after certain modifications - which include 26 cuts and the change of the title to "Padmavat".

In an email to a news agency, he said, "There are no cuts suggested in this film by CBFC, only five modifications".

The censor board's certificate will be issued once these changes are made and the movie re-examined.

Bharti Airtel was followed by Sun Pharma , Yes Bank , Tata Steel and Dr Reddy's Laboratories , which also witnessed brisk buying. In the last two trading sessions, the stock has surged over 80%. "The Sensex , too, closed below the psychological 34,000-mark".

Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Padmavati stars Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh. Fringe groups had taken to streets protesting against the release and had also demanded an apology from the crew, and had been protesting from Bengaluru to Rajasthan to various parts of the nation. Padmavati was supposed to release on 1st December 2017, but thanks to ongoing controversies and some bending of the rules from the side of the makers, the film has been postponed.

"It will not change the fact that the movie refers to real places, my ancestors and other persons in history with their names continuing to remain the same", Singh wrote in a letter to Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) Chairman Prasoon Joshi.

"We had given a whole list of objections regarding the movie", Ajit Singh, president of Rajput Karni Sena, told Reuters. The film was finally submitted last month and Bhansali had himself requested a commitee of historians and members of the Rajput community view the film and facilitate its release. "Just that whisky will be called "whiska", vodka will be called "vodki" and so on", Sinha tweeted. "Name changing is game changing I must say!" That shows the CBFC went out of its way to help the filmmaker. "Now that Gujarat and Himachal are won, "Padmavati" has got its U/A, it will be praised..." "Can you imagine what title CBFC would suggest", he tweeted. "This time protests are going to be fierce", Gogamedi said. Along with the certificate, the film will also have a disclaimer.
