Gen Jeep Cherokee Revealed Ahead Of Detroit Debut

Jeep has revealed its updated Cherokee ahead of an official debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit next month.

Fresh from the world debut of the all-new Jeep Wrangler at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show, the automaker has now released the first images of the updated Cherokee for the 2019 model year. It gets reshaped headlights, a redesigned front bumper and new foglight bezels.

At the rear, the numberplate has been moved to the tailgate for a more streamlined rear bumper, while the tail-light design has also been tweaked slightly. The 2019 Cherokee, which has been previewed by spy photos for the past few months, will ditch the current crossover's controversial styling in favor of cleaner, crisper lines inspired by the Grand Cherokee.

Jeep promises a "new, authentic and more premium design" and "even more fuel-efficient powertrain choices".

The handful of images that Jeep released Tuesday show a 2019 Cherokee with angles baked into its seven-slot grille, headlights and LED running lamps integrated into a single unit, and revised taillights. Today's Cherokee offers a 2.4-liter four-cylinder or 3.2-liter V-6, both paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission; whether such language signals the Wrangler's forthcoming 3.0-liter diesel option remains to be seen.

For now, Jeep still hasn't discussed anything regarding drivetrains, platform or pricing for its 2019 Cherokee, but it will still ride on the C-Evo platform developed in partnership with Fiat.

Marvin Lewis stepping down as Cincinnati Bengals' coach
Lewis accepted the job on January 14, 2003, when the Bengals were coming off the worst season in franchise history (2-14). They drove 75 yards in nine plays on the opening drive, which was capped by Murray's 1-yard touchdown run.
