Washington's closest allies, France and Britain, came out ahead of the vote to declare their backing for the measure, which they stressed was in line with positions enshrined in United Nations resolutions adopted over several decades. "The United States chooses to disregard global law and ignore the worldwide consensus".

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, for his part, strongly attacked the United States and accused it of supporting Zionist work in Palestine since its inception.

"It's only in a peaceful situation that the chances of peace will be maximized", he said.

In the statement, Hamas urged the worldwide community and the Arab and Islamic world to act for the preservation of Jerusalem and holy places and warned Israel not to take steps to change Jerusalem's present status.

The U.S. vetoed a U.N. Security Council resolution that rejected the establishment of diplomatic facilities in the contested city of Jerusalem, breaking with the rest of the council. "It's a full bias to the occupation and to the aggression".

U.S. Ambassador Nikki Haley called the Security Council resolution "an insult" that won't be forgotten, saying the United Nations forced the U.S.to cast a veto simply because of its right to decide where to put its embassy.

The Palestinians immediately announced that they will seek a resolution with similar demands in the 193-member General Assembly, where there are no vetoes.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid expressed regret in a written statement. It stresses that any decisions, measures or action that might change Jerusalem's status are legally void and must be annulled.

The reporter said yes but reminded the coach about the overall stretch of four home wins in five years. "Every year is different". Brady underthrew an open Brandin Cooks deep, and Howard closed for the interception and a 29-yard return to set up a touchdown.

Trump abruptly reversed decades of US policy this month when he recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital, generating outrage from Palestinians and the Arab world and concern among Washington's western allies.

U.S. Delegate to the U.N. Nikki Haley voted against the resolution, using the United States' veto power as a permanent member for the first time in more than six years.

He called on the worldwide community to adhere to relevant Security Council resolutions and strengthen their efforts for the resumption of negotiations in order to find a solution to key issues, including the final status of Jerusalem.

"Our view is that the issue of Jerusalem is a final status issue, that Jerusalem should be a shared capital for Israelis and for Palestinians, and the U.K. Embassy, for now, will remain in Tel Aviv", Matthew Rycroft told reporters before the vote.

She argued that her country has a sovereign right to determine where or whether to establish its embassy in a country.

"We will not allow the USA to be a mediator or a partner in the peace process", said Mahmoud Abbas, the president of the PA, the Ramallah-based governmental body that administers parts of the occupied West Bank.

The proposal calls for advancing a political settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian issue on the basis of the two-state solution, upholding a common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security concept, further coordinating and strengthening concerted efforts for peace, and promoting peace with development.
