"All of it was invented by people who oppose President Trump to undermine his legitimacy".

Like the White House, the Kremlin released a short post-phone call statement, saying that the two leaders had discussed the North Korean nuclear threat, as well as relations between the United States and Russian Federation.

President Donald Trump has thanked his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin for remarks he made "acknowledging America's strong economic performance", the White House says. "That needs to be done by the voters, the American people", Mr Putin said. "It shows they believe in what President Trump is doing in this area".

In a conference call Friday, Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the Kremlin, said Trump and Putin discussed how to bring North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un to the negotiation table to discuss denuclearization and how to improve U.S. -Russia communications.

"(But) we are objectively seeing that there have been some major accomplishments, even in the short time he has been working. That shows investors' confidence in the American economy.

"Look at how the markets have grown. With all due respect to [Trump's] opponents, these are objective facts".

"On the US initiative, Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump have held a phone conversation".

Multiple injuries reported in Florida school bus accident
Florida Hospital has released 20 patients after being treated for injuries following a semi versus school bus crash. The truck slammed into the back of the bus, pushing it off the road and causing it to flip onto its side.

The call offered fresh evidence that Trump will continue to work with Putin, despite potential political liabilities.

Macierewicz said in a radio interview that Putin "should have the courage to take responsibility for what has happened".

The two heads of state discussed "the situation in several crisis zones, with a focus on solving the nuclear issue on the Korean peninsula", the Kremlin said in a statement, without elaborating.

Speaking after the talks, Mr Trump told reporters: "The primary point was to talk about North Korea because we would love to have his help on North Korea".

Mr Trump has repeatedly highlighted surging U.S. stock markets as evidence that his political agenda is succeeding.

While saying earlier that he was ready to meet with North Korea "without preconditions" requiring North Korea to essentially renounce its nuclear weapons development before negotiations, on December 15 he declared: "We will never accept a nuclear North Korea".
