Explosion reported near NYC port authority bus station

Akayed Ullah, a 27-year-old man living in New York City, detonated a homemade pipe bomb in a walkway at the Port Authority Bus Terminal near Times Square during the morning rush on Monday, December 11.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, speaking at a news conference near the site, described the device as "amateur level".

The device went off in a corridor connecting the Times Square and Port Authority stations on the city's west side, one of the busiest commuter hubs, at 7:30am during the morning rush.

- The suspect in the New York City subway bombing is reportedly an immigrant from Bangladesh and lives in Brooklyn.

The incident was captured on security video, the police said. A further review and witness interview is underway. Police said he was taken to Bellevue Hospital for treatment and then taken into custody.

The Fire Department of NY said four bystanders were injured, but none seriously.

Suspect affiliations: It's unclear if Ullah is linked to any terror organization, but when asked if Ullah was connected to ISIS, O'Neill responded only that Ullah "did make statements, but we will not talk about that".

The city's mayor, Bill de Blasio, said his city isn't the target of terrorists by chance.

Rep. King says Steve Bannon looks like 'disheveled drunk' after Moore loss
The president also endorsed Moore, even after allegations that he sexually abused a 14-year-old girl when he was in his 30s. King made similar remarks on MSNBC, saying Steve Bannon " looks like a disheveled drunk".

He added that there are no additional known incidents or activities at this time.

More than 3,000 officers patrol New York City's sprawling transit system each day to guard against the terror threat that remains a menace for commuters around the world.

- Alan Butrico owns a residential building next door to the building where he says Ullah and his family live.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders tweeted that President Donald Trump had been briefed on the explosion.

Although authorities have stabilized the area, the NYPD advised people to stay clear of the Port Authority terminal and the surrounding Times Square area for now. But we are the most resilient place on earth. NY in December sees a surge of visitors who come to see elaborate store displays, the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree and Broadway shows.

He said the attacker obtained information on how to make a bomb from the internet.

Andre Rodriguez, 62, told the New York Times: "I was going through the turnstile". A short piece of metal pipe was packed with low intensity explosive material and a handful of screws meant to cause injury.

Joon Kim, acting USA attorney for the Southern District of NY, said at a news conference today that Ullah allegedly aimed to "murder as many innocent human beings as he could and to blow himself up in the process - all in support of a vicious terrorist cause".
