Rahane's father arrested after car accident kills woman

A 67-year old woman, who was identified as Ashatai Kamble, was hit by his auto and later succumbed to injuries in a hospital. Onlookers immediately rushed the accident victim to the nearby hospital where she later died.

Madhukarrao Rahane, 54, was driving with his family to their hometown in the coastal Konkan region from Mumbai when he mowed down Ashabai Dadasaheb Kamble, 67, around noon on a highway in Kolhapur district's Kagal.

Ajinkya's father has been booked for rash driving and for causing death by negligence.

"As Per Initial Police Reports deceased was standing in the middle of the road when Mr. Rahane, unable to swerve the auto brakes on time, rammed her", said by the police officer. As per onlookers, the auto was speeding and the driver lost control of the vehicle, which ended up ramming into the woman. A case was registered at the Kagal police station under sections 304 (a) [causing death by negligence], 289 (negligent conduct), 337, 338 (Causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Motor Vehicles Act.

Rahane was summoned to the Police Station on Friday where is cooperated with the Police in the investigation.

Rahane, India's Test vice-captain, is now on national duty in the three-ODI series against Sri Lanka.

The Indian team will be soon advancing for the long tour of South Africa and this comes as an unfortunate news for Ajinkya Rahane.

The 3rd and final ODI will be played on Sunday in Vishakapatnam.
