One man who, somewhat unsurprisingly, didn't agree with the decision, however, was Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, who simply claimed that 'I don't think it was a penalty'.

Mohamed Salah had given the hosts a deserved lead before the break but the biggest talking point of the game came when Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin hit the deck under contact from Reds defender Dejan Lovren.

Klopp was understandably frustrated as he spoke to Sky Sports immediately after the final whistle, sharing a barbed exchange with reporter Patrick Davison.

The Reds head into the match in fine form, having put seven goals past Russian side Spartak Moscow in the Champions League in midweek, following on from a 5-1 hammering of Brighton last weekend.

"Calvert-Lewin makes it smart, but he makes a step in this direction and even then it's nothing. To give them an open door like this, in my understanding, that's not OK", he added.

With Pruitt gone, one possible replacement would be Tosh Lupoi who is in his third year as Alabama's outside linebackers coach. One of the wildest coaching searches in college football history may be finally coming to an end.

Klopp's side are now unbeaten in 10 games in all competitions, and stretched their unbeaten run against Everton in all competitions to a record-equalling 15 games.

Although Liverpool will be disappointed that they didn't test Everton's Jordan Pickford more than they ought to have, certain groups of fans were curious as to why Jurgen Klopp decided not to start his most fearsome attacking quartet of Salah, Firmino, Coutinho and Mane. "I think the performance shows we made the right decision, but the result does not".

"Twelve goals in two games they've scored and a brilliant goal today from Salah to get 1-0 up".

For Liverpool, the draw will feel like a loss, especially since they knew that if the beat the Tofees, they could have leapfrogged third-placed Chelsea, who lost their game against West Ham United on Saturday.
