Subaru had the most Safety Pick+ vehicles.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is out with its top safety picks for 2018 and the head of that agency says the results of its crash tests are good news for the driving public. "Manufacturers have been taking this issue seriously since we first shed light on it, and we're confident that good small overlap protection will become the norm on the passenger side, just as it has on the driver side". Six out of seven in Subaru's 2018 lineup earned the award with the Impreza, Legacy, Outback, and WRX netting Top Safety Pick+ when outfitted with optional front-crash prevention and specific headlights.

Rather than design elements, Lund said headlights should be treated as safety features to help avoid a crash at night.

Overall, Hyundai posted six vehicles and Subaru four in the "Top Pick Plus" category.

Despite safer vehicles, there was a 5.6 percent uptick in US auto crash deaths in 2016, the second consecutive year numbers were higher, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Toyota claimed 10 models, including the Camry. This year, a new test was included - simulating what happens when the front corner of the passenger's side smacks into a tree or pole. The sole Subaru model that did not qualify was the BRZ.

Grubbs said she saw Conyers stroking the legs and buttocks of other staffers on multiple occasions. Elisa Grubbs made the allegation in an affidavit released late Monday by her attorney, Lisa Bloom.

"Most drivers when they buy a auto they think the passenger is going to be protected as well as they are".

However, there is a problem with the rankings overall.

IIHS is placing more emphasis on the impact of headlights on the safety rating of new vehicles.

Lund said Toyota leads the way in making crash avoidance technology standard equipment.

"Most drivers when they buy a auto, they think their passenger is going to be protected as well as they are, and so our new test is to try to achieve that", Insurance Institute for Highway Safety President Adrian Lund said. The track tests, which measure how well low beams and high beams illuminate the road ahead on the one hand, and the amount of glare they produce for drivers of oncoming vehicles on the other.
