Michael Flynn Promised Ex-Partner That Russia Sanctions Would Be 'Ripped Up'

Former White House national security advisor Michael Flynn texted a businessman during President Donald Trump's inauguration speech that a Middle East nuclear power plant scheme with Russian partners was "good to go", a Democratic lawmaker alleged today.

The allegation - which suggests the Trump administration was eager to lift sanctions imposed by President Barack Obama and that Flynn may have blurred his public and private roles during his brief run at the White House - was outlined in a letter Cummings sent to Rep.

But he asked Gowdy to issue a subpoena to the White House for documents related to Flynn, saying that the committee has "credible allegations" that Flynn "sought to manipulate the course of worldwide nuclear policy for the financial gain of his former business partners".

"I believe the American people want Congress to hold President Trump and his administration accountable", Cummings wrote, "and they are exhausted of Republicans in Congress putting their heads in the sand when faced with credible allegations of grave abuses". According to a photo of the moment that the Democrats dug up, Flynn was standing only a few rows behind Trump and peering into his phone as the president spoke.

Flynn had assured his former associate that USA sanctions against Russian Federation would immediately be "ripped up" by the Trump administration, a move that would help facilitate the deal, the associate told the witness.

Perhaps most intriguingly of all, Cummingswrites that he told Special Counsel Robert Mueller's team about all this some time ago - and that they asked him to delay publicly revealing this information "until they completed certain investigation steps".

Mourinho was then asked why he was not surprised, and said: "I can't answer to the second question". We have lost games here against Man United where we didn't deserve anything.

Neither Copson nor an attorney for ACU responded to a request for comment.

"Mike has been putting everything in place for us", Mr Copson allegedly told the whistleblower, Mr Cummings wrote. The Wall Street Journal reported in September that despite records showing Flynn's work on the project ended in December 2016, Flynn continued promoting the plan to colleagues inside the White House.

"This is going to make a lot of very wealthy people", the associate, Alex Copson, told the whistleblower on inauguration day, according to the whistleblower's account to the Democrats. Flynn said on a federal filing that he served as an advisor to the company between April 2015 and June 2016.

A spokesperson for Gowdy's office did not respond to a request for comment Wednesday, nor did the lawyer who represents ACU Strategic Partners.

Media captionAfter Flynn's guilty plea, what next for the Russian Federation investigation? Cummings said he believes Republican leaders of the Oversight Committee should approve a subpoena so they can "pursue these allegations against General Flynn in a responsible way". The whistleblower isn't named, but Cummings promised in the letter to share the person's identity with Gowdy if it remains confidential and Gowdy agrees to speak with the whistleblower. Cummings said his office could not verify the whistleblower's story, and whether Copson was telling the whistleblower the truth, without subpoenaed documents.
