Xiaomi's next flagship smartphone will use a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chip

Microsoft and Qualcomm promise once/week charging for Always Connected Windows 10 PCs

Microsoft and Qualcomm promise once/week charging for Always Connected Windows 10 PCs

Phones with a Snapdragon 845 and compatible antennas should be faster than last year's phones on the same LTE networks, and thanks to some improvements Qualcomm made earlier this year, it should also be easy for device manufacturers to use the X20 modem to support T-Mobile's new 600MHz network.

There are now 238 million Xiaomi mobile phones powered by Qualcomm processors. Until then, it's worth mentioning that, once again, the Snapdragon 845 is the result of the collaboration between Qualcomm and Samsung.

Microsoft today unveiled its first line of "Always Connected" PCs, a new generation of computers with built-in LTE connectivity and extra-long battery life. For a start, you can only download and install software from the Windows Store - that'll include things like a "specially optimized" version of Office 365 for Snapdragon-powered machines, Microsoft says.

ASUS boasts that the new NovaGo will feature up to 22 hours of video playback and over 30 days in "modern standby".

How much that will cost you every month is similarly unclear at this point.

The Asus NovaGo is future of laptops, even if it looks a lot like other 2-in-1 foldable notebooks on the outside.

The version HP showed us contains a Snapdragon 835 processor running at 2.2GHz and just 4GB of RAM.

Meanwhile, the HP ENVY x2 will borrow the detachable form-factor of the PC maker's Spectre series. Lenovo is confirmed as a Windows on Snapdragon partner, but won't be bringing out its machine to play until CES 2018 in January.

HP didn't provide any pricing information for the Envy x2, but it did say that customers can expect to buy it next spring.

The potential of a full OS on a low-power mobile processor is something we've been hearing about for years. Microsoft's Terry Myerson came on stage today to briefly talk about these Windows 10 on ARM PCs, he later detailed the benefits of this new platform via a post on the Windows Experience Blog. That combination seems a bit anemic to us, especially when you consider that some Windows apps designed for Intel-powered machines will not run natively on the Snapdragon processor, instead requiring processor-intensive emulation. That may still be some way out, but it could have a huge impact on not only Intel and AMD's businesses, but that of other companies relying on their low-power chips, including Apple.
