Chinese Actress Liu Yifei To Star In 'Mulan'

Chinese actress Liu Yifei or also known as Crystal Liu, will be playing the lead role in the live-action film adaptation of famous Disney movie "Mulan". While Yufei may not be known terribly well on this side of the planet, she's a household name in China. She also had a role in 2014's "Outcast", which stars Nicolas Cage and Hayden Christensen, and 2008's "The Forbidden Kingdom", starring Jackie Chan and Jet Li. Whether or not there's any of the original songs in the film hasn't yet be decided, but somebody needs to make sure this gets a look-in somewhere along the way.

Then, came the concern about who's going to play the Chinese heroine because the fans are not ready to handle another series of Hollywood whitewashing in Asian roles.

She also starred opposite Emile Hirsch in Danish auteur Bille August's period romance The Chinese Widow, which opened the Shanghai International Film Festival in June.

She is set to play Hua Mulan, a legendary Chinese warrior who takes her aged father's place in the army during the Southern and Northern Dynasty (420-589).

According to IMDb, we should plan on heading to the theaters to see "Mulan" in 2019.
