The lawsuit alleges that Uber experienced a smaller data breach in 2014 and, although the company vowed to update its security practices in order to meet industry standards, it failed to do so, leading to the 2016 breach, NBC Chicago noted.

In a letter to Ferguson's office last week, an Uber attorney wrote that the company "now thinks it was wrong not to provide notice to affected users at the time".

In a letter to Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, the senators questioned whether Uber followed its internal incident response plan and whether it appropriately disclosed a data breach that reportedly compromised the personal information of 57 million customers.

This advice may not go far enough to satisfy the UK's national data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

Uber failed to disclose a massive breach past year, which disclosed the data of some 57 million users, the company's new chief executive officer said last week, according to Reuters.

Russian Fighter Intercepts US Reconaissance Aircraft over Black Sea
The Pentagon confirmed the incident to CNN , which reported the jet came as close as 50ft to the US P-8A Poseidon recon aircraft. The spokeswoman for the Pentagon said the USA aircraft "did nothing to provoke this Russian behavior".

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) will conduct its investigation on the data breach involving personal data of users of ridesharing firm Uber in the Philippines. Uber also confirmed that the hackers had accessed the names and driver's license numbers of about 7 million drivers-600,000 who reside in the United States and at least 10,000 residing in the State of Washington.

"Washington law is clear: When a data breach puts people at risk, businesses must inform them", Ferguson said in a statement on Tuesday. The incident took place a year ago but was only revealed last week. "There is no excuse for keeping this information from consumers".

"We have seen no evidence of fraud or misuse tied to the incident", Uber said in a statement.

Uber has been forced to quit several countries, including Denmark and Hungary, and faced regulatory battles in multiple US states and around the world.

Ferguson announced the state's lawsuit hours after developments in a California court case revealed that federal prosecutors are investigating allegations that Uber deployed an espionage team to plunder trade secrets from its rivals.
