The police action and reaction from protesters, who had camped out at the venue for the last 20 days, sent scores of injured police and protesters to hospitals with injuries caused by stoning and respiratory problems from tear gas.

Seemingly emboldened by the failure of the government to clear the protests, which have almost paralysed the capital, Khadim Hussain Rizvi - the firebrand cleric who leads the Tehreek-e Labbaik Pakistan party - has called for protesters to bring the whole country to a halt.

Later, news channels went off air, after a notification from the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) barred them from broadcasting the security operation live. Hospital officials said near 200 people were injured, a lot of them police.

Meanwhile, severe clashes were going on between personnel of LEAs consisting of police, FC & Rangers and protesters.

Mass protests have been ongoing in Islamabad for several weeks already after the authorities made a decision to amend the Election Act by excluding a provision that had obliged candidates to confirm the Finality of Prophethood, which is the unanimous belief of the Muslim world that the Prophet Muhammad was the last prophet of Allah.

The TLY leaders are now calling for the resignation of entire cabinet of Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to call off the protest.

According to reports, police vehicles were targeted in the attack. Key social media sites like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube were also blocked.

Does vodka actually make you more aggressive?
A group of researchers from the United Kingdom (where else?) set out to see how different types of alcohol affect your mood. It may be due to the nature of the drink, such as different ingredients, alcohol content, and the amounts consumed.

"Patients dying for want of access to hospitals, traders crying for lack of business activity, students are being deprived from their right to education and [the] right of free movement of nearly six million people of [the] twin cities [is being] usurped", he said.

On Friday, Islamabad High Court (IHC) called the protest an act of terrorism and ordered the government to remove the protestors.

The Times reported at least 150 protesters were arrested.

"They have fired teargas shells (at security forces), they also cut the fibre-optic cables of cameras monitoring their protest. They have inside information and resources that are being used against the state", he told DawnNews.

Protests also broke out in Lahore and Karachi, as well as smaller towns.

The protesters, who before Saturday numbered some 2,000 people, are demanding that federal law minister Zahid Hamid resign over a hastily-abandoned amendment to the oath that election candidates must swear.
