Amid Opposition's 'Delay' Allegation, Parliament's Winter Session Likely To Convene From December 15, Says Report

Following criticisms from the Opposition regarding the delay in the Winter Session of Parliament, which generally begins in mid-November, the government has confirmed that the winter session will take place from December 15 to January 5 with a total of 14 sittings.

The Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs, chaired by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, met on Wednesday and decided that the session would end on January 5, sources said. The CCPA's recommendations will now be forwarded to President Ram Nath Kovind.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, he appealed to all Political Parties for fruitful and constructive discussions on important Bills and ensure smooth functioning of both the Houses of the Parliament.

"The country expects that the bills pertaining to these two issues will come to Parliament in this Winter Session". This will be a 14-day session.

US Navy team joins hunt for missing Argentine submarine
The craft was navigating normally, underwater, at a speed of five knots toward Mar del Plata when it was last heard from, he said. Argentina's navy says it's analyzing a noise that might have come from a missing submarine with 44 crew members on board.

Kumar alleged that the Congress was levelling allegations out of desperation and frustration as it would be routed in assembly elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh. Elections and Parliament sessions normally don't overlap.

The Congress party claimed that the government is delaying the winter session in Parliament so as to avoid debates on scandals including the Rafale deal, while the Gujarat elections are on. "Even the winter session has been deferred, altered and broken into parts", Jaitley said.

There were also talks that government would do away with the entire session but Jaitley had cleared the air saying that the winter session will be held.
