MS-13 gang members stab man over 100 times and decapitate him

Initially, Lopez-Abrego was only charged with interfering with an arrest as USA marshals worked with Avery County deputy sheriffs to apprehend Portillo-Rodriguez, an official with the sheriff's office said.

Authorities allege that the gang members had been planning the killing for two weeks.

"The victim had been stabbed over one-hundred times, decapitated, dismembered, and his heart had been excised from his chest and thrown into the grave", court papers said.

Police wrote in court records that they think Lopez-Abrego was the first attacker to stab the victim in the chest with a 15-inch knife.

Authorities have so far arrested Miguel Angel Lopez-Abrego, 19 and an alleged member of the MS-13 gang, on first-degree murder charges, the report said. A medical examiner ruled the death was homicide by sharp force injuries.

The Maryland Police who has recovered the dead body from a grave in the Wheaton Regional Park on the outskirts of Washington DC on Tuesday.

The investigation remains ongoing and police are still trying to identify the victim.

Police said that patrol officers in Montgomery County pulled over a vehicle in which Lopez-Abrego was the passenger in late September.

Lopez-Abrego did not speak during the court appearance.

An informant, who told police that he and other MS-13 gang members murdered a man, disclosed the location of a shallow grave in a wooded section of the park on September 5.

The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) released a statement addressing Lopez-Abrego's legal status in the country.

Lopez-Abrego was arrested in Avery County, North Carolina, along with Milton A. Portillo-Rodriguez on November 4.

He was wearing a gray sweatshirt with the words, "First United Methodist Church Laurel" and blue athletic shorts with the number 19 on them underneath a pair of black sweatpants.
