Former Brazil striker Robinho given 9-year term for rape in Italy

It added that "all legal steps" were "already being taken regarding this decision".

Former Milan and Manchester City striker Robinho has been found guilty of rape in a Milanese disco in 2013 and given a nine-year sentence.

Italian news agency ANSA reported that five other men were also accused of violently sexually assaulting an Albanian woman and that another member of the group, Ricardo Falco, was also sentenced to nine years in jail.

Robinho, who now plays for Atletico Mineiro in his homeland, played for AC Milan from 2010 to 2015.

He now has the right to appeal, with the sentence not enforced until the completion of this process.

A statement on Robinho's Instagram page on Thursday night said that he had "already defended himself against the charges, maintaining that he played no part in the incident".

CBS Fires Charlie Rose for 'Extremely Disturbing and Intolerable' Behavior
She said Rose had groped her multiple times and claimed he once summoned her to his hotel room and emerged naked from the shower. CBS said it wasn't aware of any complaints about Rose's behaviour at its own organization.

According to local legislation no Brazilian citizen can be extradited to another country under request to face criminal charges, although that will not apply should he leave his home nation and is detained elsewhere.

Robinho moved to Europe amid much hype in 2005 when he joined Real Madrid from Santos.

However, Marisa Alija Ramos, Robinho's agent and lawyer, insisted that the former Real Madrid and Manchester City star is innocent.

After a brief loan spell back at Santos, he joined AC Milan later in 2010 and won a Scudetto in his first season at the San Siro.

He would spend five years in Italy before moving to China with Guangzhou Evergande and then onto Atletico Mineiro in 2016.
