ATP FINALS- Goffin to meet Dimitrov for an unprecedented season decider

Grigor Dimitrov's talent took him to the brink of his biggest career win - but he needed more than that to get over the line.

He will face fellow first-time qualifier Grigor Dimitrov in Sunday's final after the Bulgarian produced another classy display to beat American debutant Jack Sock 4-6 6-0 6-3.

"There is - how can I say - not the old generation, but the generation of Federer, he's nearly 10 years older than me", Goffin said.

He added, "I can't wait to play there again. And right now those are the moments that I rise up to".

But Goffin was buoyed by wins over world number one Rafael Nadal and and a gutsy effort against second seed Roger Federer, coming back from a set down to beat the Swiss in the semi-finals.

But in a huge turnaround of furtunes, Dimitrov responded in unerring fashion with a ideal 6-0 scoreline in 22 minutes to set up a deciding set shoot-out.

Dimitrov, who had a 100 percent record in the group matches, asserted himself at the business end of the set and piled on the pressure when Goffin served at 5-6.

There was a $69,000 reward for information that leads to the shooter's arrest, that has been increased to $169,000 with Gov. Detective Sean Suiter, an 18-year veteran, was 43 and married with five children who ranged in age from 14 to 24.

"The important thing is just to stay on the ground and put your head down, work even harder", Dimitrov told reporters.

Yet rewind two years and he was struggling to play three good points in a row, let alone challenge for big titles.

Goffin's adjustments paid off early as he broke Dimitrov's first two service games either side of losing his own, before settling down to control the opener. The momentum back with him, Goffin broke the following game for a 4-3 lead and calmly closed out the set.

A bruising first set went in Sock's favour before Zverev took the second easily. I was at the right place because, you know, sometimes you are for the first time in the top eight, you don't know how it's going to go, if you're going to play a good level. "I proved to myself that I can do it".

Dimitrov was more clinical, striking in the sixth game to take control of the third set. "With that season, I'm extremely happy", he said.

Dimitrov, whose title at The O2 joins previous victories in Cincinnati, Sofia and Brisbane, is still without a Grand Slam title and he acknowledged "there is a lot to be done" as he aims to make further strides in the game. In the second, I had some opportunities to come back, to break back, but he was really solid.

"Jack is an unbelievable player - he was playing so well", said Dimitrov.
