"Well, I got adopted by my mom!" According to the National Adoption Coalition, about 5,000 children were expected to be adopted nationwide, 150 children in Nebraska.

Kids in sport coats and suspenders scurried around a crowded foyer decorated with balloons, while local government and non-profit agencies manned tables advertising resources to new adoptive families as music played over a loudspeaker.

She got her wish four years later, after her brother had been living with her as a foster child for almost a year.

A special celebration was held at Orange County Courthouse for the biggest adoption day across the country.

"A lot of these children come from the work that I do, with removals and foster parents so for the opportunity to now have permanency in their lives with families and it's just a wonderful thing", said Judge Thomas Duplantier, who legalized the 15 child adoptions.

There are more than 5-thousand children available for adoption in the US and about 75 of those are right here in Wichita Falls.

More than 70 foster kids are going home with their new families.

"You get so invested, so involved, that it naturally comes", Christopher Youngman said.

Almost two-thousand children are in and out of foster care in Kern County and the first adoption of the day was a family of a family of ten.

"I just love her for what she has done for me", Israel said.

The Zuniga family is one of 30 families adopting through Buckner Children and Family Services this year. "It's not a job to me".
