Both aircraft involved in the mid-air collision near Waddesdon (helicopter and light aircraft), came from the Wycombe Air Park, near High Wycombe.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police, who were called to the incident shortly after midday, said: "Officers are now at the scene of an air accident near the village of Waddesdon near Aylesbury".

Members of the Air Accident Investigation Branch were also deployed to the area to launch an inquiry into the crash.

A spokeswoman for Waddesdon Manor, a large estate near Aylesbury, said the crash had not happened on its grounds.

A spokesman said: "We can confirm that neither of the aircraft concerned has a connection with either our air force nor the military, and this is as much as we know at this time".

The airfield offers flight training for rookie pilots.

The AAIB sent a team to investigate the crash, and a Thames Valley Air Ambulance also attended.

Police at the scene near Waddesdon, in Buckinghamshire, where a mid-air collision between a helicopter and an aircraft has resulted in a "number of casualties".

She said she could not give any details of the identity or the genders of the victims at this stage and her "first priority" at this stage was the next of kin.

"There were a number of road closures following the incident which have now been lifted".

Nearby RAF Halton said no military planes were involved.

Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service have seven vehicles responding to the incident, including fire engines and urban search and rescue vehicles.

A police cordon remained in place outside the entrance to the Waddesdon estate on Friday night.
