Iran ballistic missile programme non-negotiable

Bombshell from Saudi foreign minister

"We have told French leaders on several occasions that the Iran nuclear deal is not negotiable and that no other issues can be included in the text" of the agreement, the semiofficial Mehr news agency quoted ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi as saying on November 11.

"France is fully aware of our country's firm position that Iran's defence affairs are not negotiable", he said.

The Saudis are in full support of President Trump's decision not to certify Iran as in compliance with Obama's treacherous "deal".

The United States has imposed unilateral sanctions on Iran, saying its missile tests violate a UN resolution that calls on Tehran to halt activities related to missiles capable of delivering nuclear weapons. He added, though, that France was committed to the landmark nuclear deal with Iran, which puts restrictions on Iran's nuclear activities in exchange for sanctions relief.

The United States Congress now has 60 days to reimpose nuclear sanctions.

Iran says its missile program is defensive and it has no plans to build nuclear-capable missiles.

While aligning with Tehran and other European signatories in opposing Trump's demand for a renegotiation of the deal, France's Macron has talked of a need to engage in talks with Iran to push its missile activities into a restrictive framework.

Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has accused Iran of "direct military aggression" against the kingdom by supplying Huthi rebels with ballistic missiles.

Earlier in the week, Saudi Arabia had blamed Iran for a missile strike on its soil from neighboring Yemen and had said there would be a response "in the appropriate time and manner". Iran denies the charges and blames the conflict on Riyadh.

Macron, on Thursday, expressed concern about the program following allegations by Saudi Arabia that they recently intercepted a missile fired from Yemen.

Iran has vehemently ruled out any negotiation on its missile program which it deems as an inseparable plank of its national security, meant for defense and deterrence.
