Twitter's verifications, in certain cases, have been scrutinized by some who see them as Twitter giving tacit support to some users.

- Jules Suzdaltsev (@jules_su) November 9, 2017 Kessler organized the largest white supremacist rally of my lifetime, and left 1 woman dead. White-nationalist figure Milo Yiannopoulos was "un-verified" previous year amid a free-speech controversy without much explanation, and has since been banned from the platform.

But the checkmark isn't just a symbol. Verified accounts also take priority in searches. Who do you value more, users like me or him? The platform verifies accounts across a range of fields-from sports people like Cristiano Ronaldo, to politicians like President Donald Trump, to religious figures like Pope Francis-but says that the account must be in the public interest to warrant verification. It is, in effect, saying that his presence is important to boost and protect, even if he uses his Twitter account to promote counterfactual, unsafe narratives.

Dorsey added: "We should've communicated faster on this: our agents have been following our verification policy correctly, but we realised some time ago the system is broken and needs to be reconsidered".

Facebook is using nude photos to prevent the spread of nude photos
It's an idea that sounds like utter madness, but Facebook is at pains to convince users that it's actually a brilliant solution. Once the photo has been uploaded, Facebook's hashing system can recognize the photo without it being visible to the public.

'And we failed by not doing anything about it. "Working now to fix faster", tweeted CEO Jack Dorsey.

Twitter said its verification process is meant to "authenticate identify and voice" but is today interpreted as an endorsement or an indicator of importance, and it is pausing all general verifications while the company tries to resolve the matter.

Do U think this blue check is warranted?? In order to get one, users are asked to describe "their impact in their field" and to provide URLs "that help express the account holder's newsworthiness or relevancy in their field".

Strictly speaking, Twitter verification is not an endorsement of views.
