Joseph Blatter, former president of Federation Internationale de Football Association, has been accused by Hope Solo, former U.S. goalkeeper of sexual assault during the Ballon d'Or ceremony in 2013, according to Portuguese weekly Expresso and published, and expanded upon, by the Guardian. Solo told The Guardian that she had to compose herself to make a speech before she handed the award to her USA teammate Abby Wambach.

She had been "nervous" before the event, and was left "in shock" just seconds before they were to go on stage for what would be one of the biggest moments in her friend's life, Solo revealed.

When asked why she didn't come forward before with her allegations against Blatter, Solo says she usually confronts the person directly if she has an issue.

A Blatter spokesperson denied the incident took place, telling The Guardian, "This allegation is ridiculous". I didn't get to tell him directly "don't ever touch me". She said she's seen inappropriate behavior from coaches, doctors, press officers - and between players.

Solo also took to Instagram to express her support for the ongoing #MeToo campaign, which aims to raise awareness of sexual assault and harassment.
