Texas Church Mass Shooting At Least 15 Shot, Multiple Deaths Gunman Reportedly Dead

Wilson County Commissioner Albert Gamez Jr. told CNN that multiple people were killed and numerous people were injured in Sunday's shooting.

Another local official who wished to remain anonymous said there are at least 25 dead and 15 wounded.

Megan Posey, a spokeswoman for Connally Memorial Medical Center, which is in Floresville and about 10 miles from the church, said "multiple" victims were being treated for gunshot wounds.

US President Donald Trump, on a visit to Japan, tweeted his concern, saying he was "monitoring the situation".

Agents from the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were heading to Sutherland Springs, a town of about 400, those agencies said.

Several people were shot Sunday when a gunman opened fire at a rural church outside San Antonio. He thanked law enforcement for their response.

The official, who is not authorized to comment publicly, said authorities were still confirming the identity of the shooter at First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs.

Abbott tweeted: "Our prayers are with all who were harmed by this evil act".

Today's massacre is already the worst church shooting in United States history, surpassing the nine killed at a Baptist Church in SC in 2015.

KSAT also reported that two Airlife helicopters are also at the scene, and The Dallas Morning News reported that at least six helicopters evacuated victims to hospitals.

The shooter is dead, police said, and there is no active threat on the scene.

A longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas avoided being caught up in the deadly shooting at the church after deciding not to attend Sunday prayers.
