That doesn't exactly lend to any sort of bragging rights among such a crowded - and high-ranked - conference, but with four games left (and Ohio State still having to face bitter rival MI at the end of November) the Nittany Lions could find themselves still in the title game discussion.

The seventh-ranked Nittany Lions led 14-7 on Saturday when the game was halted with 7:58 to go in the quarter on a chilly, rainy day. He's thrown for 16 touchdowns and run for 8 more. Penn State's forecast remains gloomy.

The Spartans held Penn State star Saquon Barkley in check with 131 total yards, including zero rushing yards in the first half. When they came back at approximately 4:30 p.m. local time, the stands were mostly bare because fans departed during the delay.

It is the third time a game at Spartan Stadium has been delayed. The Spartans turned the ball over on downs before knotting the score on their next drive.

The playoff, which started in 2014, will not have a stadium host a second national championship game until at least 2025. This will be the first time the College Football Playoff National Championship is played in the Los Angeles region.

Quarterback is a feature position for both teams.

Coach James Franklin, who has helped pull Penn State back into the national conversation during the last two seasons, has now had 10 opportunities to beat a ranked opponent on the road in his head-coaching career.

First, PSU tied the game with a 26-yard Tyler Davis field goal. Ultimately, not even Mother Nature could save the Nittany Lions from the tail end of a three-game East Division maelstrom. The Spartans took over and then mounted the game-winning drive. Both were injured in last week's 39-38 loss to Ohio State and didn't dress on Saturday.

Matt Coghlin kicked a 34-yard field goal as time expired, lifting No. 24 Michigan State to a 27-24 victory over No. 7 Penn State Saturday at Spartan Stadium.
