Jahlil Okafor wants out after 76ers decline option

Sixers, facing deadline, yet to pick up Jahlil Okafor's fourth-year option

Okafor's request comes one day after the team announced it would not pick up the fourth-year option of his contract. During that span, Okafor averaged 17.5 points and seven rebounds in 30 minutes per game while shooting 50.8 percent from the floor and 68.6 percent from the free-throw line. Starter Joel Embiid hasn't been cleared to play on back-to-back nights, so he sat out that game. But Okafor doesn't care how he leaves; he just wants to play somewhere else, even if that means getting traded before the National Basketball Association trade deadline in February. It's just, I want to get on the court.

Okafor is looking forward to getting out of Philly as soon as possible. But here I am, November 1st I'm still here and looking to play somewhere.

"Honestly, I did not want them to pick up my option", Okafor told reporters Wednesday.

A former Boston news anchor is speaking out after reports of inappropriate sexual advances on a minor by actor Kevin Spacey . Actor Zachary Quinto wrote: "It is deeply sad and troubling that this is how Kevin Spacey has chosen to come out".

The next turn for Okafor could come in the form of a buyout, reports Marc Stein of The New York Times. "I talked to [general manager] Bryan [Colangelo] about that yesterday just because I want to play". "But that's where we stand today, because he waited so long to trade me. I'm not playing here and at the end of this season, I'm an unrestricted free agent". Anthony Bennett, who was selected first overall in 2013 and Hasheem Thabeet, selected second overall in 2009, are the other first-round picks inside the top three that did not have their fourth-year options exercised. "I've been going through a lot since I've been here, so the fact that I know that at the end of the season that I'll at least have an opportunity to play elsewhere, that's great".

Last season, he found himself in a logjam at center, with the emergence of Embiid as a burgeoning superstar and both Holmes and Nerlens Noel on the roster (though Noel would eventually be traded).

Alternatively, the Sixers, as Okafor said Colangelo mentioned, don't want to just buy him out and trade returns likely aren't very promising right now.
