Police say a 12-year-old boy jumped from an overpass above Interstate 66 in northern Virginia and fell onto a vehicle, killing the driver.

A 22-year-old woman was killed Sunday after a 12-year-old boy jumped off a highway overpass in Virginia, which police claimed was an apparent suicide attempt, and landed on the SUV she was driving on the interstate below.

Harris' family said her boyfriend, who was in the passenger's seat, took control of the auto and steered it off of the interstate.

The deceased victim is Marisa W. Harris, of Olney, Md., who died upon impact. The incident is being investigated with a sight of attempted suicide.

Harris was driving on I-66 in Virginia when the boy reportedlyleaped from an overpass in Fairfax County.

The state police confirmed in a statement that the "front-seat passenger" was "was not injured" as a result of the collision.

The mother, who was not named, also told NBC Washington that her daughter was studying clinical counseling.

In a statement, Towson University spokesman Ray Feldmann said: "Our Towson University family is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our alumna, Marisa Harris". She was a clinical counseling student who would have helped the child if she had the chance, her mother told NBC 4 News Washington.

Harris' mom called it "ironic" saying the boy who killed her is a child she would have helped.

As for her passion in helping children, her loved ones said it ran in the family as Marisa came from a "long line of psychologists". "I miss her so much".
